Can’t get enough of fried catfish? You are in luck this Saturday, April 14. Supporters of The Debbie Glore Memorial Scholarship Fund are holding a Fish Fry Fundraiser at Pegram United Methodist Church.
Lunch will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the church Fellowship Hall. Take-out meals are also available. The ever popular menu includes farm-raised catfish and hushpuppies, coleslaw, white beans, dessert and a drink.
Dozens of students have benefitted from the Scholarship Fund since its establishment in the mid-1980s. More than $10,000 in educational awards have been made. After the death of beloved church member and teacher Debbie Glore from cancer in 2002, the scholarship fund was renamed in her memory. Glore was an elementary school teacher for 26 years. She taught third grade the last 7 years of her career at Charlotte Park Elementary School.
Tickets for the event will be available at the door. Tickets for adult plates are $9 and child plates are $6. For more information, contact the church at 646-6033. For group ticket sales or advance notice of large take out orders, please leave a message and contact number at the church.
Pegram United Methodist Church, which provides the home base for South Cheatham’s Meals on Wheels program, is located at 479 Thompson Rd., directly across from the ballfields at the Pegram Park. Coincidently, this fundraiser is the second fish fry of the spring season in Pegram, giving fish lovers a second opportunity to help out with a charitable project. (The first fish fry benefits the Community Club.)
Scholarship awards will be announced at the church in May. Traditionally scholarships have been paid to the school selected by recipients. Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors, college freshman, and college sophomores.
