On Tuesday the board of the Community Club voted unanimously to accept a very generous offer to reroof the Pegram Station depot in Pegram.
Universal Builders of America, a local general contractor specializing in roofing and exterior restoration, has volunteered to replace the roof on the Historical Old Pegram Station. The station was built in 1898 and is now used as the town community center. The station is also used to host private parties as well as wedding receptions.
The Community Club and the Town have been trying to raise money to replace the roof on the Station for over a year due to the age, poor condition and several small leaks throughout the building. ”The Station has been in need of a roof for a long time and we (Town of Pegram) simply lacked the funds to replace it” Says Mayor Eugene Evans.
Recently an employee of Universal Builders of America, Alfie Kirtland was at the annual fish fry held at the Pegram Station. He had noticed that the community was taking donations to replace the Station roof. The next day he approached the President of Universal Builders of America to ask if he was willing to help with cause. The President of Universal Jacob Noland immediately jumped at the chance to get involved. After setting up a meeting with Jim Garrett who is the Pegram Community Club President, Jacob volunteered to donate all labor and materials to replace the station roof. “The roof has been leaking for a couple years and I am thrilled that Universal Builders has stepped up to help us” said Jim Garrett.
“We are proud to show our Volunteer spirit once again” said Universal President Jacob Noland. Universal Builders of America will be featured on a special Thanksgiving episode of the ABC show Extreme Makeover Home Edition. They were chosen as the shows exclusive roofing contractor and donated all labor and materials to help a Knoxville family in need. “We at Universal Builders of America feel it is our duty to give back to the community not only as a company but most importantly as citizens” said Universal President Jacob Noland.
Community residents have been very helpful through donations and volunteer efforts. “We are grateful for the outpouring of support from the community” says Community Club President Jim Garrett. Community residents still have the opportunity to get involved in helping with additional renovations needed at the Community Club. Donations are still being accepted by the Community Club and Universal Builders of America will also be donating $150 for every community resident that contracts with Universal during the next six weeks.
