Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: First Grade Style First graders at Pegram Elementary in Mrs. Davis’ class had an Earth Day recycling contest this past Friday, April 20. Students created sculptures made of recyclable objects to celebrate Earth Day. First grade has been learning how to reduce, reuse, and recycle and came up with some awesome sculptures. Students made robots from boxes, tin foil, paper towel and toilet paper rolls, and plastic bottles. There were also globes made from paper and plastic bottles. Another student made wind chimes from plastic bottles and paper plates. First, second, third and runner up prizes were handed out. First place went to Logan Cathey for a robot made from water bottles, cardboard boxes, and egg cartons. Second place went to Ava Pomeroy for another robot made from cardboard boxes, tin foil and plastic bottles. Third place went to Ora Kanies for a sculpture of the Earth made from plastic bottles and plastic Tupperware tops. Our runner up was Drake Schliwa for a sculpture of Thomas the Tank Engine made from cans and cardboard. Pegram is very proud of the hard work and effort that was put forth by our first graders!
