Local Kingston Springs girl participates in the 6th grade girl’s basketball AAU National Championship

This past week Maddie Pyrdum participated in the 6th grade girl’s basketball National Championship at the Agame Facility in Franklin, TN.

In the 48 team Division II tournament Maddie was the leading scorer for the first three games to help vault her team to the championship bracket. After going 3-0 in pool play, her team received a bye in the first round of play. They defeated two teams from Massachusetts and one from North Carolina. In the fourth game Maddie hit a three pointer with just under a minute to play to propel her team to a 30-28 victory and put them in the Elite 8. In the quarter finals, she led her team in scoring again while losing 39-32 to a tough Virginia team and the eventual National Champions. Maddies team went on to finish eighth in the Nation. We are very proud of Maddie and just wanted to thank all of the people that have been instrumental in her success. First of all Larry and Candy Turner for their unwavering support of the Kingston Springs Youth League. Likewise, all of the coaches she has had the privilege of playing with over the past few years. Jamie Moulton as a second grader, David Baldwin as a third grader and fourth grader, John Gargaro as a fifth and sixth grader. And each summer Barry Williams, who works midnights and lost countless hours of sleep, to help Maddie grow as a person and a ball player. I know there are others I am leaving out and for those I thank you as well.
