Summer Reading Program at the Library

This year’s summer reading program theme was “Dream Big – READ” and our children did just that.

We had over 160 children sign up for the program this summer and 71 children turned in their reading logs.  These children read 1,915 books with a total reading time of 814 hours, that’s almost 34 days of reading!  Our top reader this year was Jay Collier with over 100 hours of reading logged.  Rounding out the top 5 readers is Tyler Gersman with 42 hours, Sean Mevis with 34 hours, Katie Collier with 34 hours, and Sophie Guthrie with 30 hours.  The children (and adults) were treated to some great “edutainers” this summer that included music, magic, shadow puppets, animals, and much more,  One very special visitor was Scooter (in his special wheelchair) with his “Dad” TJ from the Cheatham County Animal Control. As a special voluntary service project items needed at Animal Control were collected such as: dog and cat food, cat litter, bleach, paper towels, leashes, and newspapers. Our Grand Finale day was a big hit with a slide and castle jumping house from “Go Jump”, face painting, bubbles, snacks – thank you to Tony and Joy Gross and Kroger and Girl Scouts Cameron and Emily for helping out with snack  donations, and Natasha with Animal Control and her friends – Clifford the red dog and his kitties.

No program can happen at the library without a great crew behind the scenes and we are so thankful for staff, volunteers and the Friends of the Library for making this another great summer of reading, prizes, and fun!
