Letters to the Editor: 8-11-12

I was disappointed to read Col. Harley’s letter regarding gun control. We can’t really compare America to Switzerland for many reasons, and while a noble idea, arming and training every American would be a daunting and dangerous task. I don’t consider his comparing America and Switzerland a rational comparison.

Secondly, every reference to other countries’ gun control or lack thereof was a reference to genocide! Does the colonel really think that the government of the United States of America would actually resort to genocide of its own citizens?! In my opinion, this is fearmongering run amok! Furthermore the reason those people were “rounded up” as he put it, is because those countries don’t enjoy the same freedoms that Americans do as established by our constitution! We the people, still have a vote and a voice.

The government can not take our firearms as it is protected by the 2nd Ammendment of the constitution, which is alive and well and has held up beautifully for over 200 years. However, I don’t think automatic weapons were what the forefathers were talking about when they crafted this lovely document. Remember their’s was a time of muskets and cannons!

We just all need to relax and apply rational thinking to this issue. We need stricter laws regarding acquiring a firearm, and we need stricter laws regarding punishment for those who use them recklessly. It should be much more difficult to acquire a gun than it actually is. A member of the United States armed services should be an advocate for gun control, not a fearmonger.

Furthermore, how tragic that a man in uniform has no more respect for the men in uniform who protect us every day right here on the streets of America. I have no doubt that if the colonel needs help one day from the police force in Kingston Springs, they will be there to serve him in spite of his criticism of their work. I would think he might have a little more respect for men who put their lives on the line every day, just as I am assuming he did while serving our country. Thank you for your service, Col. Harley. I hope you have a chance to read this one day and think about the freedoms you enjoy, and appreciate the government that still makes those freedoms possible. God bless America.

To the Editor:

I hereby unleash 12 companies that have gone bankrupt with the aid of massive tax payer dollars. All 12 produced (or tried to produce) alternative energy. I call them various names such as:

Here are the bankrupt companies as they soaked up your tax dollars:

– Abound solar

– Beacon Power

– Ener 1

– Energy Conversion Devices

– Evergreen Solar, Inc.

– Mountain Plaza, Inc.

– Olsen’s Crop Service and Olsens Mills Acquisition Co.

– Range Fuels

– Raser Technologies

– Solyndra. That one did make the news.

– Spectrawatt

– Thompson River Power LLC

I quote from a Newsmax article titled NOT EASY BEING ‘GREEN:’ HERITAGE FOUNDATION REVEALS MORE SOLYNDRAS, “These green government “investments” take from one (by taxing or borrowing) and give to another…They do not create jobs. They send labor and resources to areas of the economy where they are wasted.” The above list is taken from that July 24, 2012 article.

I would call this economic disaster THE BUSTED 12 but this is only 12 that have filed bankruptcy for now. When government tampers with markets and forces alternative energy inefficiency down our economic throats it spells mugged pocketbooks and wallets.

The above is just a small example of the economic shambles created by Obama. Think about that as you, your kids and grandkids try to fill up your car with fuel. Think about that on election day 2012.
