Music Announced for 9th Annual ART in the PARK

This year’s ART in the PARK is just around the corner on October 6th.

Expect a “Jazzy” time at this year’s event. Leading off the entertainment for the day at 11 a.m. will be jazz vocalist Sally Slayden-Berry who has been compared to Diane Shurr and Linda Ronstadt. She will be accompanied by Kingston Springs’ own Paul Abrams on guitar and G.R.Davis on acoustic bass. Paul is one of Nashville’s best known jazz guitarists and teaches at a number of locations, including Belmont University and Fiddle and Pick Music Center. G.R. is also a local musician who teaches at Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music and Tennessee State University.

At 2:30 pm that day, the sounds will change to authentic “Big Band” jazz as the Lynn Beal Big Band takes the stage. Lynn’s band, who regularly plays at the Preston Hotel and the Tin Roof in Nashville, was a real hit at last year’s Art in the Park so we have invited them back! The Music will continue until the end of the day’s event at 5 p.m.

It is not too late to register for a free booth space where you can sell your art or craft. There are many new booths this year along with returning vendors, but space is not problem as we have over 90 acres in the park!! Spaces are 10×10 but you can have one larger if you request it. There are no fees or commissions. This is the 9th year for this city sponsored event. The only requirement is that your art or craft be hand-made by you.

Fine artists may also enter up to 3 pieces of their work in the art competition. Cash prizes and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons are awarded in each category.

To get a registration form, go to the Town’s website at www.kingstonsprings.net, pick one up at City Hall or call City Hall at 952-2110, ext.10 to have one faxed or mailed.

There is also a photo contest for kids under 14 the day of the event. No advance registration is required. A maximum of two photos can be submitted, digital or film but must be unaltered. Photo paper preferred, but not required. Maximum size allowed is 5″ x 7″ and each photo should have a title. There are no specific categories and subject matter is unlimited. The submission must be made by noon. Awards of cash and ribbons will be made at 1:00 p.m. The submitting photographer must be present to win.
