Homer R. Dodson: Editorial 9-21-12

A few weeks ago at a national presidential convention, the party platform removed the word “God” and also would not name Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

That party had always included those words in previous platforms as far as I know.

When I found out, I thought of some scriptures as follows:

“And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind to do those things which are not convenient:” Romans 1:21

“…every man did that which was right in his own eyes:” Judges 17:6

“”Behold I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling…and in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people….”Zachariah 12:2 – 3 in part.

When seeing the omission, the convention chair sought a vote to reinstate the word “God” and to reinstate that Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

It needed to carry by two thirds. Right there on live television, it was voted down three times. The convention chair said that the motion carried. If it had not been so tragic it would have been funny math.

It showed where their hearts and minds were. It shows how relevant The Bible speaks to us today. That book shows where every generation stands in history and speaks loudly to us today and provides a mirror to us. We stand without excuse.
