Last Friday, September 21, the HMS PTO sponsored the Homecoming Bash for the middle school students. Students enjoyed games, concessions, karaoke, and much more on the softball field at the middle school. Everyone had a great time and also got to enjoy the parade. Thank you to our wonderful PTO for organizing and sponsoring this great event.
Last week our seventh grade Science teacher, Mr. Bodnar, took his fourth period Science class to the creek that quickly became a river in the May 2010 flood. During this class the students took water samples and conducted test to see the content of nitrogen and oxygen in the water. They also checked the PH levels and indicators species. The lab was led by Marina Metes. She is with the Harpeth Watershed Association. Mrs. McCoy our eighth grade Science teacher will be taking her class this week to experience the same thing.
Our “Chief of the Week” is seventh grader Henry Oakley. Henry likes spending time with his friends at HMS. His favorite subject is Math. He is on the golf and soccer team here at HMS. He is a forward on the soccer team. In his spare time he likes to play both sports for practice. Henry has two brothers that attend HHS. Chandler is a senior and plays soccer and Carter is a junior and plays in the band. When asked why his teachers nominated Henry they replied with the following: “ Henry is an all around great young man”. Henry is responsible and always prepared. He is a good friend to all and strives to be the best he can be. Way to go Henry!!! Congratulations on being Chief of the Week!!!!
Our Highlight New Faculty Member is Mr. Ed Bodnar. Mr. Bodnar joins our staff this year but has been teaching at the HHS for the last six years. At the high school he taught every Science except Physics. Mr. Bodnar said he became a teacher because while in college he taught conversational English in Russia and found it to be every rewarding. Mr. Bodnar attended middle school in Elkins, West Virgina. In middle school the thing he loved the most was 7th and 8th grade Science. He said his teacher made it entertaining and fun by getting your attention by standing on the tables. His favorite teacher in school was Mrs. Kidd. She taught his 11th and 12th grade class in high school and taught him how to think for himself. Mr. Bodnar graduated from Lipscomb University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He also has a Masters of Arts in Biblical Studies and a Masters in Administration and Supervision. In his spare time he does woodworking and has a special interest in photography. We are so glad to have Mr. Bodnar join our staff this year at HMS.
