HHS Embraces “Best Buddies” Organization

Best Buddies float in the Homecoming Parade

Harpeth High School has recently joined an international organization called Best Buddies. This organization was originally started by Anthony Shriver and was designed to create opportunities for one to one relationships and enhance socialization opportunities for students with disabilities.

In addition for Life Skills students to develop one to one relationships with other high-schoolers, after school events will be planned such as bowling, movies, hikes, parties, etc. in which all club members can actively socialize and step outside of the classroom.

The Best Buddies Club at Harpeth High School is only one of 15 in the entire state. We currently have a membership of 46 students. Our first event included the Homecoming Parade and Spaghetti dinner. Best Buddy club members helped the Life Skills Class decorate the float, joined in riding the float and then came for a spaghetti dinner shared by all. We plan on having many more events as the school year progresses. To help us pay for the events, we will be having fundraisers in our community. Our first fundraiser will be November 2nd and 3rd in which we will be selling Krispy Kreme donuts. Please be on the lookout for more information and remember to SUPPORT BEST BUDDIES!!!
