HHS News: 10-5

Mission statement: HHS provides a safe learning community which challenges its students academically, artistically, and athletically. We empower our students to become life-long learners who possess integrity and wisdom.

Mr. Kris Bull

In the teacher spotlight this week, we are featuring Mr. Kris Bull. Mr. Bull has been placed back at Harpeth this year and is teaching Algebra I and geometry. Mr. Bull has returned to Harpeth this year after several years working and teaching in Dickson County. Mr. Bull is a teacher who is dedicated to helping his students excel in math. He is usually one of the first teachers to arrive in the mornings and last to leave in the evenings. Dana Bates describes him as “an incredible math teacher with a huge heart. He deeply cares about his students.” His former principal in Dickson County stated that their loss is Cheatham County’s gain. Welcome back, Mr. Bull!

Another aid to our math department at HHS is the addition of four classroom sets of graphing calculators. In its continued efforts to increase technology in the classrooms, the Cheatham County BOE has purchased these calculators for the students to use in conjunction with teachers attending additional inservice opportunities to improve their skills in the classroom. Math teachers have attended workshops on Standards Based Grading at Walker Valley High School in Cleveland, TN, Increasing Student Engagement at the Ron Clark Academy, and the Student Centered Classroom presented by Carnegie Learning at Cheatham Middle School. Each math teacher attending the workshops received a classroom set of calculators for his or her classes to use.

Having trouble in math? Harpeth offers free math tutoring Monday-Thursday from 3-4:00 in the afternoons. Thanks to Mr. Bull, Mrs. Bates, and community volunteer Ted Carlton for donating your time in the interest of helping our students. Please encourage your child to reach out for tutoring if needed.

HHS upcoming sporting events include: football at Sycamore Oct. 5, 7:30; soccer at Dickson, Oct. 9 at 6:00 and Oct. 11, 7:00, at Independence in Franklin; volleyball district tournament at Harpeth Oct. 8-12. Please come support your Indians!!

Harpeth High School Beliefs: We believe that schools should have a combined caring commitment from community, parents, staff, students, and teachers.

Quote of the week: “Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it.” Dwight D. Eisenhower
