New Fiction

Goldberg Variations by Susan Isaacs: Almost in her 80s, Gloria Goldberg, known to the business world as the ruthless beauty-business tycoon Gloria Garrison, wants to leave her business & wealth to one of her 3 grandchildren who are in their 20s. But they are happy with their lives and don’t value money as the ultimate goal in life. Their weekend together is a struggle between values, intermingled with memories of unresolved pain from a grandmother whose interaction with family has been minimal & unpleasant.

Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling: Barry Fairbrother was a councilman in the small English town of Pagford. His sudden death created a vacancy. As those interested in succeeding him arise, the peaceful façade of the town is shredded and the tensions among the inhabitants are laid bare. Deception & unexpected revelations reveal our human nature in its not-always-so-pleasant state.
