PES “Softens Up” for the New Year!
One of the Pegram Elementary School’s First grade classrooms will be softening up for the New Year.
Mrs. Femino’s First grade classroom will be receiving various items to “soften up” the acoustics in the classroom. Mrs. Femino created a project on DonorsChoose.org in hopes of acquiring materials such as a new area rug, beanbags, and padding for the bottom of the tables and chairs to help a hearing impaired student, Jack Gill. These items help prevent sounds from echoing in the room.
Information from the DonorsChoose.org site states the following about the charity: “Donor’s Choice is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America post classroom project requests on our site. When a project reaches its funding goal, we ship the materials to the school (www.donorschoose.org/about).”
Over the winter break this project was fully funded by four generous donors. The donations were received from individuals who reside in New York, Florida, Michigan, and here in Tennessee. The materials will be received by mid February.
“I am very excited and grateful for this opportunity. Not only will Jack benefit but so will the rest of the class!” says Mrs. Femino.
Jack and his mother were very excited about this. Mrs. Gill stated, “We feel very fortunate to have a teacher like Mrs. Femino who goes above and beyond to make Jack’s classroom experience the best it can be. She really cares about the classroom environment and how it impacts his hearing and understanding of the material presented. Jack and his classmates will all benefit from these new materials.”
