Board of Education to Begin Negotiating Curtis Contract

By DALE GRAHAM

The Cheatham County Board of Education met in regular session Monday night. All members were present.

During the public forum board members were addressed by a Ms. Hamlin, who asked them to do what they originally said they would do when Dr. Stan Curtis was hired as Interim Director of Schools, and conduct a search for a new director. She stated that Dr. Curtis “came into a mess, its continued to be a mess”. She added that Curtis may or may not be the best choice, but a true search was the only way to find that out.

Later in the meeting, the board took up the subject, and Chairman Michele Collins asked for a motion, and Diane Proffitt made a motion to enter into contract negotiations with Dr. Stan Curtis. Tim Williamson stated that he went to the Board office and listened to past meetings and never heard a search mentioned. There was no further discussion. Williamson (2nd District) voted no. All others voted for: Collins (1st), Dan Moore (3rd), Proffitt (4th), Johnson (5th), Brian Chase (6th).

Harpeth High School students and their teachers were recognized for their upcoming participation in the TN Science Bowl, Lydia Gleaves, Rachel Leonard, Jacob Parrish, Andrew Whitaker, and Dallas Hamlin, (for more see Harpeth High School News, page 2).

Kingston Springs Elementary School and Sycamore High School provided the artwork that decorated the board room.

William Johnson stated at the end of the meeting that he was going to do everything he could to foster trust for the school board in the community. “Throughout this county, I want to make sure that people trust us”.

The Cheatham County Board of Education meets the first Monday of each month at 7p.m. in the Town Meeting hall.
