The Region 9 wrestling tournament will be held at Springfield High School on Friday and Saturday, February 8 and 9, 2013. Wrestling will begin on Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. with the preliminary and quarter final rounds. Action will continue on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with the consolation, semi-final, and championship rounds. Wrestlers on the Harpeth wrestling team have been working extra hard to prepare for the biggest tournament before the state championships. Harpeth Coach, Ricky Woods says they will be ready. “We have really picked up the intensity level at practice. We are conditioning harder, wrestling harder, and focusing on what is sure to be thrown at us this weekend.” Harpeth will be lead by seniors, Camron Cox and Jackson Felts. Camron, a two-time state qualifier qualified for the TSSAA State Wrestling Tournament his freshman and sophomore year. Camron was upset in the consolation semi-final round in 2012 which eliminated him from the region and ultimately the state tournament. Camron looks to avenge that loss this weekend by winning the region tournament and going on to compete at the state tournament. Jackson is hoping to qualify for the state tournament for the first time. Jackson is in his second year as a Harpeth wrestler. Felts will be competing at the 152lbs weight class while Cox will be competing at the 120lbs division.
Wrestlers must place in the top four of their weight class to qualify for the state tournament to be held at the AG Expo Center February 14, 15, and 16, 2013.
