With spring just around the corner, I want to take this time to tell you what keeps the spring in my step. I’ll be 64 this year, and I have been taking yoga classes for several years at Studio Mills in beautiful downtown Kingston Springs.
Since I retired a couple years ago, I’ve been able to go in the mornings at 9 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. Before then I would go in the evenings at 6 on Monday and 6:30 on Wednesday.
Sometimes there are extra offering at the Studio, such as recently an international yoga teacher Cora Wen was here to teach other yoga instructors, and we Studio Mills regulars got to attend one of her classes.
The really neat thing about yoga is that it doesn’t matter what sex, age or shape you are in. You start from where you are, and the instructor helps you to modify the movements to fit your practice. Recently, a couple people in their late 60s joined our class.
But the important thing with aging is that you do keep moving, and to me, yoga is an amazing way to do just that and to keep moving in a way that will improve our balance, agility, flexibility, and stamina. So I encourage you to try it and to commit to coming through the spring season–that’s three months–and see what yoga can do for you.
