Local chefs will be frying up catfish this Saturday to raise money for The Debbie Glore Memorial Scholarship Fund, a college scholarship program of Pegram United Methodist Church.
Lunch will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the church at 479 Thompson Road in Pegram. Take-out meals are also available. The ever popular menu includes farm-raised catfish and hushpuppies, coleslaw, white beans, dessert and a drink.
Dozens of students who attend Pegram UMC have benefitted from the Scholarship Fund since its establishment in the mid-1980s. More than $10,000 in educational awards have been made since 2002. After the death of beloved church member and teacher Debbie Glore from cancer in 2002, the scholarship fund was renamed in her memory. Glore was an elementary school teacher for 26 years. She taught third grade the last 7 years of her career at Charlotte Park Elementary School.
Tickets for the event will be available at the door. Adult plates are $9 and child plates are $6. For more information, contact the church at 646-6033. For group ticket sales or advance notice of large take out orders, please leave a message and contact number at the church.
Pegram United Methodist Church, which provides the home base for South Cheatham’s Meals on Wheels program, is located across from the ball fields at the Pegram Park. Coincidently, this fundraiser is the second fish fry of the spring season in Pegram, giving fish lovers a second delicious opportunity to help out with a charitable project. (The first fish fry benefits the Community Club.)
