Summer Reading Program at the Library

This year’s summer reading program theme was “Dig Into Reading” and our children did just that.  We had over 240 children sign up for the program this summer and 54 children turned in their reading logs.  These children read approximately 3,400 books with a total reading time of 871 hours!  Our top readers this year were Tyler Gersman, Will Collier, Sophie Guthrie, and Lucas Pardo with a total of 242 hours between them.  Age group leader readers were:  Wren Harwood, Taylor Zook, Joshua Dronsella, Austin Gersman, Calee Young, Lucas Pardo, Kynnedi Tucker, Lucy Guthrie, Sarah Collier, Tyler Gersman, Emma Zook, Drake Schliwa, Fiona Mikhail, Sophie Guthrie, Aaron Petty, Will Collier, Azul Sanders-Simons, and Katie Mealio. The children (and adults) were treated to some great “edutainers” this summer that included music, magic, animals, and much more,  One very special visitor was Scooter (in his special wheelchair) with his “Dad”TJ from the Cheatham County Animal Control.  Our Grand Finale day was a big hit with Harpeth Alpacas (with animals that “dig”), digging for fossils, planting flowers, face painting, bubbles, snacks, prizes and a “Prehistoric Picnic”! – Thank you to Home Depot (Bellevue) for flowers, soil and planters, Nashville Zoo, Lawrence Foods, Bellevue Sonic, Dollar General for the generous literacy grant,Tony and Joy Gross and many more of our volunteers who helped out.

No program can happen at the library without a great crew behind the scenes and we are so thankful for staff, volunteers and especially, the Friends of the Library for making this another great summer of reading, prizes, and fun!
