Harpeth Middle School News 09/21/2013

HMS IndianWhat an exciting time at HMS!!!!! Last week HMS celebrated their 2013 Homecoming. We had a great spirit week dressing up every day. Each day a winner was chosen. The following are the days and their winners: Monday- Fake an Injury Day-Madison Rushton, Tuesday-Decades Day-Sierra Higgs, Wednesday-Holiday Day- Wesley Hardin and Bret Roberts, Thursday-Spirit Day-Grit Light, and Friday- Cowboy/Hillbilly Day-Joseph Whittsit. On Thursday, we had wonderful Pep Rally with the introduction of our volleyball, golf, girls soccer, cheerleaders, and football teams. That evening our 2013 Homecoming Court was introduced during the halftime of our football game. The court was as follows: Fifth Grade Attendants: Emma Lane escorted by Mark Reese, Alexandria Duke escorted by Grit Light, Hope Leppert escorted by Nate Ivey, Sixth Grade Attendants: Sydney Allison escorted by Brandon Collins, Olivia Cox escorted by Grant Patterson, Savannah Page escorted by Ty Holland, Seventh Grade Attendants: Aaliyah Newcomb escorted by Brady Hickerson, Taylor Crutcher escorted by Zac Cantrell, Hope Whitlow escorted by Daniel Bandy, Eighth Grade Attendants: Reagan Hatcher escorted by Josh Metcalfe, Macey McMinton escorted by Mason Rodriguez, Grace Rawlins escorted by Henry Oakley, Hailey Sovine escorted by Marek Chester. The 2013 Homecoming Queen was Grace Rawlins. What a great week enjoyed by all!

Last winter our 5th and 8th graders took the TCAP Writing Assessment. Mrs. Carlton our librarian helped the Reading/Language Arts teachers work with our students preparing them for the test. She also offered the students an incentive for high achieving scores on the assessment. Fifth grade students with the highest scores are as follows: Tessa Aly, Brianna Humphries, Emelia Hurt, Ann Elise Jackson, Tyler Jinnette, Jamie Lawless, Hailee Lewellin, Jordan Parrish, Kinsley Wells, Kyra Barker, Caroline Colvin, Maggie Corlew, Zachary Styler Jinnette, Jamie Lawless, Hailee Lewellin, Jordan Parrish, Kinsley Wells, Kyra Barker, Caroline Colvin, Maggie Corlew, Zachary Stuedeman, and Olivia Zerkle. Eighth grade students with the highest scores are as follows: Madison Sparks, Jordan Baldwin, Cossette Bolt, Jaima Bryan, Emilie Burgan, Tristan Davenport, Landon Higgs, Cailey Maternowski, and Brooke Sobo. We are all very proud of these students and their achievement on the TCAP Writing Assessment.

Homecoming Bash

When: September 27, 2:45pm to 5:00pm

Where: HMS Softball Field

Cost: $10 – prepaid wristband, $15 – at the gate; includes inflatables, music, face painting, tattoos, colored hairspray, karaoke, corn hole, ladder ball and other games. Concessions and Kona Ice will be availalbe for purchase; we will offer bottled water at no charge. Permission slips must be signed by a parent/guardian.

Help needed:

* We will need assistance/volunteers throughout the day – 8am to 6pm. Please email your availability to harpethmiddlepto@hotmail.com.

* Week of the bash, Sept 23-27, we will be accepting donations during car rider line of bottled water and canned sodas. 5th grade: bottled water – 6th, 7th, 8th grade: canned sodas
