HHS Boys Basketball Steak Dinner Tradition Continues

basketball ballOn November 2nd at Harpeth High School the HHS Indians Basketball Team and their support group, the Harpeth Fastbreak Club, will be picking up where former Head Coach Jamie Wilson left off with their annual fundraiser, the Steak Dinner.

Doors open at 6p.m. that night, with dinner at 6:30. There will be a Silent Auction where you can bid on a large and growing list of items until 7:30. Then there will be a live auction for a few bigger items, followed by entertainment, (skit that you don’t want to miss). The skit will start at approximately 8:30p.m.

“This is the only fundraiser for the Harpeth Boys Basketball Team”, Fastbreak Club President Zach Clayton said this week. The only county funding is the coaching supplements. The Club is responsible for everything else, shoes, balls, uniforms, etc. There is no participation fee to play on the team like in many other organizations, because of the money raised at this very important fundraiser.

This is the 12th Annual Steak Dinner, which was the slightly insane brainchild of Wilson. The dinner is served by players and some parents. Dinner includes a 12oz. Ribeye steak, baked potato, salad, dessert and cold drinks. Attendees will get the chance to meet the team and the new head coach, Will Mantlo, The auction items are always sought after, and the skit! Oh the skit! It usually involves a bunch of basketball parents willingly making fools out of themselves, and at some point Coach Wilson would usually come out dressed as a girl, (try not to think about the grass skirt and coconuts!) Coach Mantlo will probably get a bye this first year on the costumes!

Tickets are still available from Harpeth Indians basketball players and parents for $30 each, or $25 each if you’re buying more than one.

The Harpeth Fastbreak Club, www.harpethfastbreakclub.weebly.com, is a newly formed 501 c 3 support organization for the boys basketball team. Board officers include: Zach Clayton President, Gary Cox Vice President, Chevy Hutchison Secretary and Dawn Hutton Treasurer. They follow recommended accounting procedures and are licensed by the state. They have lots of ideas on how to help support the team in the future, but for now, the Steak Dinner is the thing! So find a player or a parent, get your tickets before they sell out and enjoy the dinner and the night!
