In early May 2010 it started raining and it didn’t stop until the face of middle TN was nearly unrecognizable.
The local losses were practically unbearable.
One of the most painful losses was that of Pegram resident, 39 year old Danny Tomlinson. He was swept away from his car while trying to get home as the waters rose. His car was recovered fairly quickly, but his family, lots of friends and volunteers had to search for more than 4 months before finally finding his body, not far from where his car was found.
Since that day, life has gone on for most everyone, but it’s been understandably hard on Danny’s family – especially his Mom, Sherry Wilson.
Danny lived on a dead end on Navajo Trail in Pegram for 11 years. Sherry explained that, “People drop off a lot of stray animals on a dead end.” Luckily for 17 of those stray animals Danny and his Mom cleaned them up, neutered and found every one of them homes. Caring for those strays was something they were both driven to do, “It’s in my heart and it was in Danny’s heart,” Sherry tearfully explained.
That hasn’t changed even though Danny has been gone for 4 years now. Sherry has taken care of 3 strays since he has been gone, but she called the S. C. Advocate this week with a special request. She found a dog on Monday during the storms as they moved through, storms that were reminiscent of those terrible floods of 4 years ago. She had found a mess of a little dog, lost, probably for a long time. She found him on Apache and Navajo Trail in Pegram.
She took the poor little thing to Cheatham County Animal Control on Sam’s Creek Rd. The kind people there spent a lot of time picking through tangles and cleaning up months of dirt and grime. Underneath all that mess was a precious little Shih Tzu, or Lhasa Apso type dog. Sherry went back on Tuesday and was thrilled to see him all cleaned up and being cared for. “They have done a wonderful job with him. They cleaned him up, they got a professional groomer to come in and help. They’ve been wonderful,” Sherry said. She has gone by and taken the dog treats and walked him since.
Sherry is convinced that someone used to love this little dog and has missed him a lot since he got lost. She wants very, very badly to reunite this dog with its owners. She feels in her heart that Danny may have sent this little dog to her, so that she could return it home. We’re happy to help her. Please call or go by Cheatham County Animal Control, 2797 Sam’s Creek Rd. (Rt. 249), (615) 792-3647 if this is your dog. Or if you know someone who lost a little dog like this one, probably several months ago, let them know where he is! Then call us here at the S. C. Advocate so we can let everyone know that he is home!
