FISHING RODEO 2014 ~ June 7th

Go to bed early so you can get up bright and early for the Kingston Springs Annual Fishing Rodeo. This will be held on Saturday, June 7th at the pond at L.L. Burns Park. All kids ages 4 through 12 are eligible to participate. Registration starts at 5:30 a.m. and fishing starts at 6:00 a.m. Official fishing will end at 9:00 a.m. Awards will be made shortly thereafter. All participants will need an adult signature on the registration. There is no cost to participate.

Large catfish will be stocked in the pond a few days prior to the Rodeo. The pond will be closed to the public for several days prior to the Rodeo with no fishing allowed in order to preserve the fish. The general public may fish after the Rodeo ends at 9 a.m. It is FREE FISHING DAY in Tennessee on that day, so no license is required for anyone, just for that day.

Fishing awards are provided by the event sponsor, Heritage Bank of Kingston Springs. Awards will be given for First Cat Fish, Heaviest Catfish, Smallest Catfish and Most Catfish. There are also “tagged” fish for special prizes.

Numbers will be drawn for door prizes throughout the morning. Everyone that is registered has a chance to win. Door prizes are provided by TWRA and City Commissioner Gary Corlew.

Bring your own cooler as there will not be a concession area. Coffee will be provided by Heritage Bank. Also bring a lawn chair or blanket, fishing gear and BAIT. (Catfish love chicken livers. Lawrence’s Grocery always stocks extra during rodeo week.)

Adults may not fish until after 9 a.m. Adults caught fishing during the tournament will disqualify the child from any awards or prizes. Children must tend to their own pole. Adults may bait the hook and remove fish from the hook when caught, but children must be constantly attending their pole while the hook is in the water.
