In the month of August the Pegram Church of Christ (5019 Walkup Rd., Pegram) will be celebrating its 100 year anniversary in the South Cheatham Community. The month long event will feature visits from former ministers each Sunday in the chronological order they served with the church. Each minister will present lessons during the Bible class time and then share a message during the worship assembly that follows. In addition to these services, there will be a potluck meal that follows the assembly each Sunday. To better commemorate the centennial event, the church produced a church wide directory complete with pictures from the past along with photos of current members and ministry. A brick walkway has also been constructed to honor individuals and families who have been an important part of the history of the Pegram Church. It features names of church members past and current, community members, and ministry efforts.
In conjunction with the centennial celebration, the church is hosting a picnic reunion for all past and current members of the church’s youth ministry program, the Pegram Youth T.E.A.M. Dating back over 30 years, the youth ministry has played a critical role in the growth and development of the church. The ministry is led today by a former youth team member, Aaron Johnson. “Having the unique opportunity to serve in the ministry of the church where I grew up is a tremendous blessing. I’ve always loved being a part of the South Cheatham community and feel honored to lead the youth team program which has a history of service and fellowship in this area,” Johnson added. The P.Y.T. Picnic Reunion will be held on Saturday, August 8 from 6:00 pm- 8:30 pm on the lawn of the church. The family friendly event is for kids and adults of all ages. There will be food, music, and inflatables along with an outdoor slideshow featuring pictures and video from the youth group’s past events and experiences.
On the final Sunday of the celebration, August 30, the church’s current minister, Jason Allison, will be sharing a message to honor the church’s past, but also speak to the church’s future. Jason came to church as a youth ministry intern before becoming the full time youth minister and eventually leading the worship assemblies. He has served at the church for over 21 years, the last 11 as the preaching minister. He states, “This celebration is one we have been anticipating for quite some time and there’s a lot of excitement surrounding the assemblies and reunions. The South Cheatham area is a wonderful community and we’ve always been honored to be a part of it. The partnership we share with area churches and organizations like the Ark is a unique relationship that we are extremely proud of. Within our church, God has used so many people through the years to lead and direct this family and we’re indebted to them all. I’ve heard it said that the best way to gauge the effectiveness of your church and its ministry is what would happen to your city or community if your church shut down and closed it doors- would anyone care or would they even notice? Without a doubt, God has blessed us with the call to be a blessing in this community in the past and for many more years. As thrilled as we are about what He has done in the past in and through this church, we are just as excited about what he will do in the next 100 years!”
The community is invited to any and all of the celebration events. For more information about the centennial celebration, P.Y.T. picnic reunion, or any other event, visit their website at www.pegramchurch.org or contact the church office at 615-646-6808.
