Lady Cardinals’ Pressure Overwhelms Lady Panthers!

The 6th Grade Lady Cardinals were eager to play their first home game of the season in the friendly confines of “The Nest.”   All though this game was an exhibition game against a quality Pleasant View Lady Panthers team, the Lady Cardinals were ready to stretch their wings on the home hardwood.  While the Lady Cardinals were at full strength for the game, the Lady Panthers limped into the game without the presence of their head coach and a key Lady Panther player, which would play some role in the outcome of the game.
The Lady Cardinals took to the floor with the intent of pushing the pace of play from the opening tip to the final buzzer.  After some sloppy play with turnovers being committed by each team, Whitley Miller (8 pts) found her shooting stroke hitting two quick jumpshots to give the Lady Cardinals an early four point lead.  Following a foul by a Lady Cardinal and a made free throw by the Lady Panthers, Laney Corlew (8 pts off of 4/5 shooting) made the Lady Cardinals’ inside presence known scoring on a strong power move to push the lead to 5 points for her team.  Cara Stuart (6pts) then got into the scoring action hitting two jumpshots to go along with another made jumpshot from Miller to help the Lady Cardinals closeout the first quarter of play with a commanding 12-1 lead.
The second quarter of action proved to be a continuation of the first.  Pressure defense continued to create scoring opportunities for the Lady Cardinals.  Corlew took advantage of those scoring opportunities by flexing her muscles on the inside to score half of the Lady Cardinals 12 points in the quarter.  Emily Long (4 pts) and Karli Moss (2 pts) would each hit shots from the floor while Autumn DeVilling (1 pt) and Cheyenne Higgs (3 pts) would each add a free throw to extend the Lady Cardinals lead to 24 – 1 to end the half.
The second half of the game would go bye in a flash as the clock ran continuously, and the Lady Cardinals retreated into a half court defense.  After a slight let down of being outscored one Stuart free throw to one  Lady Panthers’ bucket from the floor in third quarter, the Lady Cardinals found their wings again topping the Lady Panthers in the games final stanza 7 – 2 to get the win, 32 – 5.
The exhibition game served as a great tune up for both teams as they climb back into CCYBA action against one another at Pleasant View Elementary School’s “Panthers Den” at 4pm Saturday, November 14th.
South Cheatham friends, make the short trip Northeast across the county this Saturday to support all your youth as the Pegram (Lady) Blue Jays will be in action at East Cheatham Elementary with games starting at 10am, and then catch the Kingston Springs (Lady) Cardinals in action at Pleasant View Elementary with games starting at noon.  Go (Lady) Cardinals!
