INDIANS SHUT OUT FRA IN HOMECOMING VICTORY

The Indians celebrated Homecoming in style last Friday night as they defeated Franklin Road Academy 12-0 behind two Jeremy Roark-to-Perry Horkins touchdown passes. Harpeth scored in each of the first two quarters and never allowed points to the Panthers.

The defense was opportunistic, causing three interceptions on the night. Midstate leader Horkins came up with two, pushing his total for the season to five interceptions. Senior Gary Harbin led the team in tackles with 11, while Jacob Conatser rebounded with a stout effort and eight tackles, including one sack. Freshman Josh Dillon continued his good work in the secondary by making seven hits and breaking up a pass.

One of the turning points came when senior punter Kendrick Jones sped around the end with a fake punt to give the home team a first down. Kendrick put in a total effort with six tackles (one for loss) and two receptions on offense.
Coach Loope complimented the leadership of team captains Harbin, Jones, Justin Cox and David Stapleton. “Our seniors showed the way, just as we expect them to,” he commented. “Our playmakers did their part and the rest of the team filled their role in a hard-fought win.” “We talked before the game about the importance of this particular ballgame and the guys responded well.”

Another big test awaits this Friday as Lewis County comes to town. The perennial state power is undefeated again and favored to win the region, but the Indians are ready for the showdown. Game time is 7 pm, so don’t be late!
