January 1909
Fri. 1- Cold this morning. Parr and Hooper gon home to day. They did not burry Guss Dunn to day. Benton out. Troy better today. Will stop till night.
Sat. 2- Went to mill. Guss Dunn burried to day. Cool today. Went
to the lodge me and Ewing. Got back 12 oclock at night.
Sun. 3- At home all day. Cloudey to day. Jess Hale and Garner hear to day. All so John Greer. At home all day. Julius went to Sams Creek and back. Dock Allen lost his jobe so I hear. Jo Hallond tuck his place. Old Tom Mixen still in jale so I hear.
Mon. 4- Cloudey this morning. Benton gon to Sams Creek. Trudey Miller gon to stay allso her babey. She went to Nashville. Lish Hooper with her. Julius gon to Pegrams. All so Sam Gordan. I got a leter from Lela Skipper to day. Benton and Erlie Clark staid all night at Dick Hoopers.
Tue. 5- Raind all day. Dun nothing. Benton come home.
Wen. 6-Mary 61 years old to day. Cold freezing all dday. Nick Balley hear to day. Found my boat to day.
Thur. 7- Cold this morning. George Clark hear to day. Dr. Harris mother died this morning at 6 oclock. I went to Kingston.
Fri. 8-Still cold. Julius gon to Sams Creek. I went Jess Hales. I will hold up till night. Turned some warmer at 12 oclock.

Sat.9- Sold to Jess Hale one mair for 90 dollars. Fiftey cash. Note 40 dollars. Cold. Julius come from Sams creek. He bought Jess Hales timber for 10 cts stick.
Sun. 10- At home all day. Cold today. Bill Greer hear today.
Mon. 11- Went to Kingston. Paid Moore 9 dollars. Paid George Clark up in full 3.60 cts. Paid Bill Greer 10 dollars. Coffee one dollar. Paid cash. Jim Riggan and Egbert Riggan hear today. Cold and sleetting. Jim gon home. Ewing at Clarks.
Tue. 12- Cold this morning. Big sleet on the ground.
Wen. 13- Sleeting this morning. Nothing doing at all. Lish in Nashville. I hope he will do well. Julius out hunting. The 12.40 late today. Raining this eaveing.
Thur. 14- Ewing and julius went to Sams Creek. Had the mules shod. Owe for 10cts for it, Jim Wilson come to see me. Staid all night. All so Egbert Riggan. Raind to day. River past fording. Hanners mill wheal bursted to day. Killed one mair. Hurt one man.
Fri. 15- Raind this morning. Bought Egbert Riggan out. 2 horses
one wagon and harness. 118 dollars. Julius went to Sams Creek.
Jim wilson gone home.
Sat. 16- Raind to day. Halled wood. Went to mill. Benton and Julius on Sams Creek. Me and Mary at home bey our selves to night. Sent Boy Crouch 2 dollars. Ewings sow had piggs. 5.
Sun. 17- Mrs Tiney Mathis married to day to John Boone.
Mon. 18- Halled wood and hay to Jess Hale 3.00 dollars. Coffee one dollar oil 15cts tabaco 25cts. Went to Kingston. Benton come from Sam Creek. Mrs. Riggan very sick. Lish come home.
Tue. 19- Me and Mary went to Sams Creek to see Mrs. Riggan. I staid all night with Uncle JIm Hooper. Give Julius 2 dollars. Mrs. Riggan 1.00 dollar. Total 3.00 dollars. Big Frost at night.
Wen. 20- Come home. Mrs. Riggan no better. Jim Wilson come staid all night. Benton at work on the island.
Thur. 21- In the woods half day. Went to Kingston. tobaco 25cts
paper 5cts.
Fri. 22- Went to Brush Creek me and Wilson. Rainning to night.
Mrs Riggan bad off to day. Sold hay to day to Groves. One ton 150lbs. Paid money to Ed Page 12 dollars.
Sat. 23- Halled wood. Warm. Jim
WIlson gon home. Ed Harris hear to day. Sold him hay 6 dollars.
Sun. 24- Mary gon to Sams Creek allso Ewing and family.
Mon. 25- Halled wood with boath teams. Ed Harris all night Sunday night.
Tue. 26- Jim Wilson come. Halled wood. Paid Dozier and son five
dollars and fiftey cents in full Monday 26 bey Jim Wilson.
Wen. 27- Halled wood. Ewing went to Sams Creek. Had the horses shod bey Ben Hale. One 60. Paid cash bey Bill Demumbreng.
Thur. 28- Went to Sams Creek. All night at Mrs. Riggans. Mary
still over ther. Cold high wind all night.
Fri. 29- Come home. Cold and snow. Mary on Sams Creek.
Sat. 30- Cold, snow, high wind. Very cold. Mary on Sams Creek.
Mrs. Riggan very sick. Going to Sams Creek.
Sun. 31- Come from Sams Creek. Mrs. Riggan no better. Cold,
Ice. So this winds up the month of January 1909.
February 1909
Mon. 1- At home. Eat dinner at John Greers. Did not run the line. It was too cold. Mary still on Sams Creek. Charley Butlers babey borned Friday January the 29th 1909. A girl. Cold night. Ewing gone after his wife and boy. Lont Lish 3 dollars. Mary still on Sams creek. Lish gon to Nashville.
Tue. 2- Pulling corn. Lish come home. Julius gon to Sams Creek. Mrs. Thomson died today at Kingston. Ben Thomsons mother. She will be burried to day.
Wen. 3- Pulled one load of corn. Going to meet Marthey Hooper. Ewing gon to mill. Benton on the iland at work. Mary on Sams creek. I am keeping house. Cold. All night at Mrs. Riggans. Marthey come. Warm to day.
Thur. 4- Come home me and Mary. Warm to day. Dun nothing. Benton and Ewing on the island.
Fri. 5- At home. Raining hard this morning. Mary in bed a sleep. Jim Fulgham hurt in a reck Monday.
Sat. 6- Went to Kingston. Bought one barell flour from Ed Pagh 5 dollars and 65cts. Paid cash. Went to the lodge. Cofee from Moore 1.00 dollar potatoes 50 cts sodey 10 cts cartridge 20 cts. Total 1.80 cts. One dollar and 80cts. Owe for same.
Sun. 7- Julius went to Sams Creek. Mrs. Riggan better.
Mon. 8- Went to Pegrams Sta. to Furlieys. Jess Hale.
Tue. 9- At home. Riand hard till noone. Ewing at Clarks. Herbert Clark. Went to Nashville yesterday. Nothing doing to day. Wet.
Wen. 10- At home all day. Harry Newberry staid night.
Thur. 11- Went to Sams Creek. All night at Dick Hoopers.
Fri .12- Come home. I give Mrs. Riggan 6 1/2 cts. Newberry all night. Ed and Erlie Clark come down.
Sat. 13- Went to mill. Fixed the yard fence. Snuff 10cts. Troy 12cts. Total 1.22cts. Newbery gone to Dickson to night. Benton down at Ewings. Lish makeing ties.
Sun. 14- went to Bill Fulghams. Raind hard all day. At John Greers.
Mon. 15- At home all day. Raind all day. cold. Newberry at home.
Tue. 16- Cold. Bad day. Court going on at Ashland City. Newberry at home.
Wen. 17- Cold. Bad Day. Newberry come in tonight. Nothing doing.
Thur. 18- Fred Fowler staid all night. Newberry went to Sams creek.
Fri. 19- Fred Fowler gon. Left this morning. Raind all day. Newberry hear.
Sat.20- Lish and Newberry cut ties. I cleand out road at Clarks. Got sick. Ewing went to the lodge last night. Hard thunder at night.
Sun. 21- Cloudey and thunder this morning. Looks like rain. Think it will. Tom Owens died Febuary Saturday the 13th 1909. Profesor Link died Friday Febuary the 12th 1909. They wer boath good men and well thought of. Me and Tom was in the confederate armey. He was a good soldier but he has gon to rest wher the wicked cease from troubling and the weary be at rest. Whear God will recompense all hoo love and love him in this life. Hubert Crouch staid all night.
Mon. 22- Had a fuss with Ewing. This is the last year that we will farm together. I will rent the place out or sell it and let and let them all go and do for them selves. All but Benton. He is a good boy. I neaver helpte him any but I will. All the rest I have kepte up for 5 years. But now I am dun. Raind hard today. Well a man will get mad and say a heap.
Tue. 23- On Sams Creek. Raind hard today. All night at Mrs. Riggans. Dock Doziers boys broke his thie. Bert Mathises child got drowned today near the head of Dry Creek.
Wen. 24- Owe J.N. Hooper 50 dollars. River up high to day. Come home. Left my mule at John Henrys. Hubert Crouch and Harry Newberry left Monday night Febuary 22ond 1909 and come back today. They was out in the rain. Got in at 12.
Thur. 25- Eat dinner at John Henrys to day. Brought the mule home. River up high. Crouch gon to Nashville. Beat his way on the train. Newberry makeing ties.
Fri. 26- Dun nothing all day. Newberry makeing ties. Paid him 2.50 today. Lish gon to Ashland. Clear and cold to day. Old Aunt Lucey col. hear yesterday.
Sat. 27- went to Kingston. Bought from Moore coffee 1.00 dollar oil 25cts one pair pants from Beards 1.75. Total 2.95 cts. owe for same. Mary gon to Sams Creek. All so Ewing and wife and boy. I am keeping house to day. Seen Bobe Devis to day. Allso Tom Dunn. Clear today. Prettie weather.
Sun. 28- Mary went to Sams Creek and back. Lish come from Nashville. Julius come home. Marthey went home the 27. Clear and prettie weather the last day of Febuary 1909
