March 1909

Mon. 1- Went to John Henrys after the collar.  Fine day. Lish in the tie woods. Allso Julius. Ewing at home. Benton on the island. Clabe doing nothing. Ewing mad but that is all right. He can do as he pleases. Clear. A fine day. Well I must make some money. I must go to traiding. Dun nothing all day. John and Bill Greer gon to Nashville.
Tue. 2- Halled ties. I fell 20 feet to day on solid rock but it did not kill me. And I am glad I am not dead. Paid Bill Greer five dollars.
Wen. 3- Ewing halling ties. All so Sam Gordan. I dun nothing. Si Thornton staid all night Tuesday 2ond 1909. Sam Colvin all night. Lish and Newberry tie makeing. Julius gon to Sams Creek. Benton on the iland at work. Si gon to Nashville.
Thur. 4- Julius went to Sams Creek to day. Mary after Lallett. Lish in the woods. Benton on the iland. Ewing plowing.
Fri. 5- Benton on the iland. Lish in the hills allso Newberry. I cleaned out road. Sam Colvin all night with Ewing. John Greer sick. Raind and haild hard at night. Ewing plowed to day. Lish went to Kingston at night.
Sat. 6- Too wet to plow. I went to mill. Clear today. All out in the woods. Charley Butler and family at Ewings. Benton on the iland. Julius on Sams Creek. Seen Mrs. Stringfelow at John Greers. Colvin gon home. I think Julius will come home today.
Sun. 7- Went after the bugey at John Henrys. Went to Mitchells and George Clarks. Raind some today. Julius come home.
Mon. 8- Raind today. The Butlers mooved out hear to day on Bill
Greers farm. Boys got wet today. Sam Colvin at Ewings all night

Tue. 9- I have ben out hear 2 years to day and I am well pleased. Raind to day hard. Lish, Benton, Newberry makeing ties.
Wen. 10- Julius gon to Sams Creek. Mary gon to Butlers. Colvin
gon home. Benton on the iland. Lish and Newberry at work.
Thur. 11-- Bought 8 head of hogs from O.H. Butler 23 dollars.
Fri. 12- Raind hard to day. Doing nothing. Halled hogs home.
Sat. 13- Raind today. Lish and Benton gon to Nashville. Newberry gon to Dickson. Raind to day. Bought one bushel meal from Greer 80cts. Paid cash. Julius on Sams Creek. John Tabor come to Ewings at midnight. Staid till day.
Sun. 14- At home. Newberry. Lish, Benton, Julius come home. Tabor gon home to Dick Hoopers. He is boarding ther so I hear.
Mon. 15- Ewing gon to hall ties all so Sam Gordon. Lish in the woods. Benton on the iland. Mary washing or haveing it dun. Cold ground frozen. Plentey of ice this morning.
Tue. 16- At home doing nothing. Lish makeing ties.
Wen. 17- Lish makeing ties. Ewing and Sam halled ties Monday and Tuesday the 15th and 16th. John Brown dead.
Thur. 18- Julius went to Sams Creek. Gordan plowing.
Fri. 19- Out in the woods. Hard storm and hail today. Raind hard.
Sat. 20- Raind hard. Benton gon to Sams Creek, I put up fence. Julius come home last night. Butler worked for me 1/2 day yesterday. 37 1/2 cts. Harry Newberry gon home or to Dickson town. Had 2 hogs spaid to day. 20cts, paid cash. Mr. Jim Mays hear today. Seen Lon Liles to day. Olie Butler hear today. Poore tramps they are haveing it hard.
Sun. 21- Went to Bill Fulghams me and Mary and to John Greers.
Mon. 22- Worked on fence and went to Kingston. Owe Jacob Webb 50cts. Benton come home.
Tue, 23- Working on fence. Benton shucking corn. Lish makeing
ties. Warm to day but to wet to plow. Sam Gordan gon to Nashville.
Wen. 24- Julius gon to Nashville and Sam Gordon. Raind hard and still raining hard. Julius come home at 9 oclock.
Thur. 25- Worked on the garden. Went to Kingston.
Fri. 26- Worked on the garden. Got it patched up. Newberry all night.
Sat. 27- Went to mill. Owe John Greer for one 1/2 bushels meal.
Paid him 15cts. Ritchard Harper and John Taibor staid all night. Raind hard. Ground wet. River up. Lish had his ties takened up today. Ben Hale shod the horses. Owe him for same. 1.60 cts. No Dick Hooper.
Sun. 28- Harper gon home. Clear today and frost this morning.
Mon. 29-Halled wood on the iland me and Ewing.
Tue. 30- Dun nothing all day. Lish and Benton on the iland boath days. Went to Kingston. Bought of Moore shuggar $1.00 coffee $1.00 matches 10cts turptine 20cts. Toatal $2.30 cts. Mrs. Butlers dog mad, killed.
Wen. 23- Plowed. Sam and Ewing horse hard to ketch.


April 1909

Thur. 1- Dug ditch. Lish, Benton on the iland. Planted out the unions. Frost all the week and ice. Louis Riley hear to day. Ewing plowing. Allso Same Gordon.
Fri. 2- Lish and Benton on the island. Ewing and Sam plowing. Frost and ice this morning. Went to the mail box.
Sat. 3- Planted potatoes. Dr Ben Cox, Ben Hale, Jewel Fowler, John Birlbra, Jessey Young, Deftey Butler and a tramp staid al night all so Dick Hooper. Olie Butler and Julius gone to Sams Creek. Went to the lodg. A brakeman got killed to day at Newsoms. Cidney Mitchell died to day at 5 oclock am. So I heard
to night. He was a good boy.  I knew him from a child up to manhood, young and stout. He was kind to his father and mother. I know they will mis him. He was good to his brothers and sisters and they all loved him. But he is gon to the lord where the weeked cease from troubling and the weary be at rest. It is there he will a wait for father and mother and brother and sisters to welcome them at their comeing. God knows best. May Cidney hear the welcome plaudit. WElcome my son to the heaveny fathers house whear love and peace reighns for eaver.
Sun. 4- At home all day. All gon home .Butler come home. Julius
still out. Newberry hear to day. Lish come home at midnight from Nashville.
Mon. 5- Fixed the yard and put up fence. Ewing and Sam plowing. Lish and Benton at work on the island. Ewing plowing.
Tue. 6- John Hudgins staid all night. Tom Dunns daughter died today. Boys at work. Herbert Clark sick with phumonia. Raind hard at night. Poter Thorntons wife very sick. Too wet to plow this
morning. Hudgins gon home.
Wen. 7- Tom Dunns girl burried to day.
Thur. 8- Helpt Lish work on fence. Cold frost and ice.
Fri. 9- Helpt Lish and Benton. Dun a hard days work.
Sat. 10- Dun nothing. Today went Kingston for gait 30 nails, 5 1/2 bushel meal from John Greer. Owe him for it.
Sun. 11- Sam Colvin hear to day. Frost and ice this morning. Troy sick this morning. Went after Dr. Liles.
Mon. 12- Went to Kingston. Coffee one dollar from Moor. Warm this morning. Ewing and Sam plowing. Worked in garden. Mad dog out so I hear.
Tue. 13- Helpt Fulgham Moore. Mules run a way. Lish working on
fence.
Wen. 14- Helpt Lish worked on fence. Hot. Boys working on farm.
Thur. 15 – Helpt Lish worke on fence. Sam and Ewing at worke.
Fri. 16- Helpt Lish. Frank Hanner comemince plowing to day.
Sat. 17- Jim Colvin and wife come down staid all night. All so Tom Osborn and 2 boys staid all night. John Hudgins hear to day. Henry Stringfellow lost his too boys. Drowned in Harper river on Mondey April the 12 1909. Lish and Benton working on fence. Went Kingston.
Sun .18- Colvin gon home. Allso Tom and sons. Made pailling me
and Ewing.
Mon. 19- Plowed all day or disked all day. Raind some today.
Tue. 20- To wet to plow. Maid pailling me and Ewing.
Wen. 21- Maid paillings me and Ewing 1/2 day. Jim Wilson staid
all night.
Thur. 22- Wilson gone home. Went to Pegrams with Wilson. Warm and clear. Lish and Benton tie makeing ties. Seen Bettey Larkins too sons. Julius killed a snake at the spring today. Mary washing. Henry Stringfellow found his boys the 21 of the month.
Fri. 23- Made paillings me and Ewing. Lish halled ties John
Harper hear to day. Warm today.
Sat. 24- Paid John Greer up in full to day 2.80 for meal. Paid Erbie Clark 1.50. Jack Work staid all night. Planted corn all day. Porter Thorntons wife died today so I hear.
Sun. 25- John Taylor hear today all so Bobe Grodan, Sam Gordan, Charley Hale, Olie Butler, Depha Butler, Erbie Clark and son, Jack Work. Julius gon to Sams Creek.
Mon. 26- Planted corn all day for Ewing. Lish got a letter from Fred Fowler. Jo Dillingham hear to day. Delpha Butler gon to Dr Liles to have her tooth pulled. Lish and Benton makeing ties. Julius on Sams Creek. Warm today. Frank Hannah col. plowing to day.
Tue. 27- Made paillings me and Ewing. Raind some today. Mr. Mitchell very low so I hear. Mary made soap.
Wen. 28- Bought 2 1/2 bushels seed corn from John Greer 2.00
dollars. Owe him for same. Sam disking land. Lish, Benton tie makeing. Clear and warm today. Julius on Sams Creek.
Thur. 29- Sam and Ewing plowed. Laid off corn ground. Raind hard in the eavening. Lish gon to Nashville. Julius come home.
Fri. 30- Julius gon to Sams Creek. To wet to plant corn. River up. John Hudgins hear yesterday all so Jess Hale. Benton went to work with Hudgins. Sam Colvin hear today. Newberry hear to day. Went to Kingston. One twist tabaco 10cts, snuff 10cts, Total 20 cts. So this wynds up the month of April of 1909.
