May & June 1909

Sat.1- Sie Thornton, Egbert Riggan, Jewell Fowler, staid all night. Cold to day. Lish come from Nashville this morning. Owe John Greer 80cts for one bushell meal. Went to lodg. Owe Moor $1.00 for shuggar and coffee. Total today 1.80.
Sun. 2- Big frost and ice this morning. Ed Harris and wife and  daughter and 3 children come to see us today. Sie gon. Left  this morning. Benton gone to Butlers. He come home today.
Mon. 3- Fixed Bentons fence. Benton and Lish cutting logs.  Julius on Sams Creek. Delpha Butler hear today. Ewing and Sam  plowing. Planting corn. Mary seen a strang woman on the  railroad. Wrot Lela a letter. Sent it off this morning.
Tue. 4- Julius come home. I helpt mary fix the yard at Clarks.  Benton and Lish out cutting logs.
Wen. 5- Mary had washing don today. Aunt Mary Gordon col.  and  daughter hear to day. Julius gon to Sams Creek. Mr. Fulgham  very sick at Kingston.
Thur. 6- Me and Mary at home. Lish and Benton cutting logs.  Julius come home from Sams Creek. Fri. 7- Planted corn. Williams and Wiggs staid all night.
Sat.8- Bought of John Greer one bushel meal 80cts. Owe for it.  Cairy Williams and Wiggs gon home. Lish and Benton come home. Jim Sears col. died May friday the 7th 1909.
Sun. 9- Raind hard in the eavening. Hubert Crouch and a young  man hear to day. Hubert Clark hear today. I sent the Crouch girls a bora. To wet to plow. Jim Sears col. burried to day.
Mon. 10- Went to Kingston and put up fence me, Sam and Ewing.  Benton and Julius in the woods. Lish gon to the mill.
Tue. 11- Helpt Benton all day on fence. Jim Wilson in the woods  him and Georg Pascal. Seen Jo Dunn and Hams wife. John Greer and Pole Drake col. hear today. John fixed Poles pappers for him. Minnie and Delpha hear to day.
Wen. 12- Mr. Phill Mitchel died to day. He was in the confedrate armey and made a good soldier. He was a good man to his famley and a post master at Pegrams and the best friend I eaver had. C.S. Hooper. Worked in garden.
Thur. 13- Went to see Mr. Mitchell burried. Benton gon to Sams Creek. Julius gon to Kingston. John Eatherly hear to day. The boys planting corn. Will get dun to day. Moore hear to day. Warm to day. Lish on Brush Creek or Hatchett hollow. Seen Bill Kellam for the first time in 35 years to day. John Eatherly staid all night. Warm to day.
Fri. 14- Mr. Gairison hear to day. Sam Colvin and famly hear to day. Went to Kingston. Coffee 1.00 dollar, churn $1.85. Total 2.85. Today warm.
Sat. 15- Went to mill. Owe John Greer 80cts for one bushel meal. Mrs. Butler and famly hear today. Lish out cutting logs. Lish come home. Raind hard this eavening.
Sun. 16- Trudey come down to day brought the babey. Hogs in the field. Mrs. Miller gon. Tom Works, Fowler come over to Mrs. Butlers today. Lish gon to Nashville. Eli Cotheran staid all night.
Mon. 17- Julius gon to Nashville. Ed Clark hear today. Eli gon to Waverly. Minnie sick. Julius come home. Lish still in town.
Tue. 18- Worked garden. Too wet to plow today. Ewing went to Kingston. Benton went Kingston. Bought him a pair shoes from Ed Page $3.75cts. Lish still in Nashville. Went to the bridg yesterday.
Wen. 19- Helpt Ewing replant corn. Raind today. Lish in  Nashville.
Thur. 20- Raind today. Too wet to plow. Dun nothing all day.
Fri. 21- Raind to day. Julius broke the wagon toung out today.
Lish out to day. Benton went to Brush Creek yesterday. Bought 2
plow handles from Ed Page paid 10cts, twist tobaco 45 cts. Newton Fisher and Mary Casey hear today. Mary washing to day. Too wet to plow to day. Sam fixed my boots and plow to day. Cloudey this eavening.
Sat. 22- Dick Hooper and Dick Lovell staid all night. Julius gon to Sams Creek. Raind some to day. Bought of John Greer 1/2 bushel meal 40cts.
Sun. 23- Clear to day and cool. Dick Hoopers gon home. Ewing gon to Sams Creek allso Troy his son. John Bell and Bobe Adkison col. hear today. I have just heard of Bobe Hamltons death. He was a fine soldier and a good harted man. He served in the Union armey during the Civil War. I loved Bobe and I beleaved he thought a heap of me. We fought each other from 61 too 65. He was noble, kind, and true. God save his noble spirit is my prair in the holy city above. Ewing come  home all so Julius.
Mon. 24- Raind to day. Too wet to plow. Lish come home.
Tue. 25- Riand to day. Dr. Liles and Zeah Hale had a schooting spree today so I hear. But I know nothing about it.
Wen. 26- Raind to day. Lawman come down today. Trial at Kingston today. Zeake Hale and Dr. Liles. Julius gon to Sams Creek. Lish gon to Kingston. Too wet to plow. A negro killed Sunday the 23 bey a negro near Newsom St. Shot dead on the spot. Williams is the name of the negro hoo dun the killing so I hear. Lawman gon to Hales. Olie Butler hear today.
Thur. 27- Worked on fence all day me, Ewing and Benton.
Fri. 28- Worked on fence 1/2 day. Plowed the other half.
Sat. 29- Went to Happey Hollow me and lish, Lawman staid all night.
Sun. 30- Lawman gon to Nashville. Cross ties up to night. I am 64 years old today.  Julius gon to Sams Creek. Raind hard today. Too wet to plow. Julius come home. Garner Hale and the Zin boys hear today.
Mon. 31- Raind to day. John Hudgins staid all night. This wynds up the month of May 1909.

June 1909

Tue. 1- Went to the crusher with John Hudgins. Still to wet plow. Paull went with John. 3 negros eat dinner hear today. Julius gone to Sams creek.
Wen. 2- Raind today. To wet to plow. Julius come home. Dun nothing all day.
Thur. 3- Went to Sams Creek me and Julius. Staid all night with Rustey. Was at the mouth of Sams Creek. Brown Hooper very sick so I hear. Raind
Fri. 4- Come home allso Julius. Lish gon to Nashville. Boys plowed som today. Seen Mrs. Riggan.
Sat. 5- Benton plowed all day. All so Ewing. Olie Butler sick.
Sun. 6- At home all day. Lish come home. Benton and Julius gone to Sams Creek.
Mon. 7- Went to Kingston. Tobaco 10cts. Paid cash. Train reck.
Tue. 8- Plowed all day for Sam Gordan. Got red hot or too hot.
Wen. 9- George Paskal staid all night Monday night. Plowed 1/2
day. Lish gon to Kinston. Has not got back yet. Also Sam Colvin.
Thur. 10- Plowed 1/2 day for Ewing. Hot today. Lish gon to Kingston.
Fri. 11- Charley Lovell and son staid all night hear. Raind.
Too wet to plow. Lish gon to Kingston. Sam Colvin hear today.
Had 2 shoes put on Toney by George Clark. Mrs. Obrine at
Clarks, Erbie Clarks.
Sat. 12- Lish gon to Kingston. Julius come home. Brooks hear
today. All so Olie Butler.
Sun.13- Raind this morning. Bill McFerrson hear today. Bill Greer and Julius drunk today. Juell Fowler gon home. Henry Horton and brother brought Julius home. Ewing gone to Brush Creek for me. His babey sick. No rain this eavening.
Mon. 14- Sie Thornton staid all night. Raind today. Too wet to plow. Went Kingston. Bought one gal oil 15cts. Total 20cts cash. Sam Gordon col. fixed a plow.
Tue. 15- Sie Thornton gone. Sam Colvin hear. Lish went Kingston. Cow had a calf.
Wen. 16- Went to Kingston me and Lish. Mrs. Butler hear today. Hot.
Thur. 17- Plowed about 2 hours. Raind some to day.
Fri. 18- Lish gon to Nashville. Worked in garden. Cool today. Ewing gon to Kingston.
Sat. 19- Dick Lovell staid all night. Benton come home. Fowler come over. Bought of John Greer 3 lbs corn 12 dollars. Paid cash. Halled hay. Ewing worked for John Greer. Sam Gordon worked for Clabe. Lish still in town. Lodge met to night at Kingston.
Sun.20- At home, Fowler at Mrs. Butlers. Olie Butler hear today. Dick Lovell gon home. Raind some today. Lish still in town. Fowler gon home. Benton at home. Julius on Sams Creek.
Mon. 21- Mrs. Stump buried today on Pond Creek. Raind hard to day. Too wet to plow. Nothing doing.
Tue. 22- Lish come home this morning at 2 oclock from Nashville . Raind hard today. Too wet to plow. The boys at home. Wen. 23- Raind this morning. River up. Lish gon to the woods. Benton and Julius at home. Ewing gone to Traynor.
Thur. 24- Raind to day. Looked over Jacobe Judds timber. Egbert Riggan all night. Lish out at Traynors. Charley Russells trail commenced to day.
Fri. 25- Raind today. The boys plowing a hot today. 90 deg. Egbert Riggan all night. Benton and Julius at home plowing today.
Sat. 26- Raind today. Bought 1/2 bushel from John Greer. Owe him for same 40cts. Egbert Riggan all night. Bought of Moore 6 joints stove pipe 90cts. Friday coffee 1.00 dollar. Owe him for
same. Charley Russell sent to pen for 5 years. John Stone sent to the pen for 5 years. Egbert Riggan staid all night.
Sun. 27- John Hudgins and Egbert Riggan staid all night. Lish and Ewing went to Sams Creek. Raind to day. Went to Clarks in the eavening. Boys come home.
Mon. 28- Julius gone to Sams Creek. Cut hay today. Stuart on the iland. Hot 90 deg. Egbert Riggan and Lish gone to Traynors to work. No bodey hear today. I am rong. Mrs. Hay was hear today.
Tue. 29- Raind to day. Got hay wet. Seen Stuart today.
Wen. 30-  Raind to day. Got hay wet. Plowed to day. Well this is the end of the month of June 1909. Ben a wet month.
